Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

TextCorrect ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our desktop application and website services.

By using TextCorrect, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account (by email and password or by signing in with Google or Facebook), we collect:

  • Email address
  • Password (hashed and encrypted), if you use email/password sign-up
  • Account creation date
  • Profile information provided by Google or Facebook when you sign in with those providers (e.g. email, and any other information you authorize)
  • Temporary tokens for email verification and password reset (stored only until used or expired)

If you register interest in future offerings (e.g. a Mac version of the app), we may collect your email and consent to contact you for that purpose.

2.2 Usage Statistics

To understand how our product is used and improve the service, we track anonymous usage statistics including:

  • Number of text corrections performed
  • Event types (app launches, corrections, errors)
  • Response times and success rates
  • Last usage timestamp
  • User activity patterns and engagement metrics

This data helps us analyze product adoption, identify churn patterns, understand user behavior, and improve the overall service experience. All statistics are aggregated and anonymized for analytical purposes.

2.3 Payment and Billing Information

If you subscribe to a paid plan, we store payment-related data necessary for billing and accounting, such as payment amounts, dates, and currency. Payment method details (e.g. card information) are processed and held by our payment provider, Stripe; we do not store full card numbers or CVCs.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

TextCorrect does not have access to your keyboard register or text fields. We do not:

  • Monitor or record your keystrokes
  • Access text fields without your explicit action
  • Store the content of text you correct
  • Track which applications you use
  • Access files on your computer

Only the text you explicitly select and choose to correct is sent to our API for processing. You have full control over what information is shared with our service.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain our service
  • Analyze product usage and adoption patterns
  • Calculate churn ratios and user engagement metrics
  • Identify areas for product improvement
  • Send you important updates about the service
  • Respond to your inquiries and support requests
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

5. Data Processing and Storage

5.1 Text Correction Processing

When you use TextCorrect to correct text:

  • The selected text is sent to OpenRouter API for processing
  • We do not store the content of your text corrections
  • Text is processed in real-time and not retained after correction

5.2 Data Storage

Your account data is stored securely on our servers. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information. Payment-related data (amounts, dates, currency) is retained for billing and accounting. When you delete your account, we anonymize your record (e.g. replace your email with a non-reversible placeholder) so it can no longer be linked to you, but we may retain anonymized records for legal and accounting purposes. If you later create a new account with the same email address, that is a new account; we may still retain the prior anonymized record for accounting and legal purposes.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • OpenRouter: AI text correction processing. See OpenRouter's Privacy Policy
  • Stripe: Payment processing for subscriptions. Stripe collects and stores payment method details; we receive and store only data needed for billing (e.g. amounts, dates). See Stripe's Privacy Policy
  • Google and Facebook: Sign-in and account creation. When you use "Sign in with Google" or "Sign in with Facebook," we receive information (e.g. email) from the provider in accordance with their policies. See Google's Privacy Policy and Meta's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Analytics: When enabled, we may use Google Analytics on our website to understand how visitors use our site (e.g. page views, in-app events). See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Railway: Cloud hosting infrastructure

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and associated data
  • Opt-out of marketing communications
  • Request a copy of your personal data

Account deletion: You may delete your account at any time from your account page (Danger Zone). We will remove your personal data from our systems and cancel any active subscription. We anonymize your record and retain some data (e.g. payment amounts, dates) for accounting, analytics, and legal purposes; this data can no longer be linked to you. If you later sign up again with the same email, you will receive a new account and we may still retain the prior anonymized record. Our payment provider, Stripe, retains its own records (e.g. customer and transaction data) per its Privacy Policy; we do not control Stripe's retention.

For other requests (e.g. access, correction, or a copy of your data), please contact us through our Support page.

9. Cookies and Tracking

Our website uses strictly necessary cookies to make the site work (for example, to keep you logged in and maintain your session). These cookies are required for the basic functioning of the service and cannot be switched off.

With your consent, we may also use analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics) on our website to understand how visitors use our site (for example, which pages are visited and how often). This helps us improve TextCorrect and our documentation. Analytics cookies are only set if you choose to accept them via the cookie banner; you can decline and continue using only essential cookies. We do not use tracking that follows your browsing behavior across other websites.

10. Children's Privacy

TextCorrect is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
